Understanding Loss & Grief

This is a great session that enhances participants understanding of what people usually go through when they lose someone through bereavement. It also highlights other types of loss experiences and discusses how people grieve in different ways. There are many unconscious responses that kick in to help us manage grief, and it lowers anxiety if we can recognise them for what they are. This session explores differing views on the stages of grief and provides practical strategies for helping yourself, others and children deal with the inevitable losses in life. Rather than taking one particular approach, we critique models of grief and the traditional stages of grief to highlight how differently people may react. The main message is that there is no right way to grieve, and the session introduces the idea of resettling rather than recovering. We are never quite the same after a loss, but we can usually learn to integrate it into our lives and move forward as a different person _ in fact, we may even be stronger or wiser as a result.
